John Somerville is a retired Marine Corps Colonel. During his 30 years in the Corps he was an Infantry Officer and later an Intelligence Officer specializing in the Middle East. John spent time in Israel, Turkey, Somalia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria and the most dangerous place of all, Washington, D.C.
Somerville first went to the Middle East in the early 70s and has made more than 50 trips there in the ensuing years. His interest in the Land of the Bible and archaeology enables him to speak with authority about the historical and current military/political events in the region.
In 2005 he was honored with the prestigious "Friend of Israel" award. He earned a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University. Mary and John make their home on a ranch near North Fork, CA. They have six children, and 10 grandchildren.
John is the Central States Coordinator for CHRISTIANS UNITED FOR ISRAEL (CUFI), a coalition of evangelicals from a broad spectrum of Christian denominations committed to the biblical mandate to bless and stand with Israel and the Jewish people. CUFI maintains that Christians should be good stewards and spokespersons regarding the God-given liberties entrusted to us in our nation which was founded on Judeo-Christian principles.
